Many young girls and mothers living in the slums possess skills that needs
to be developed. Tailoring and embroidery are the most common skills. IMCARES
runs three tailoring classes in it’s centers at Mahim, Dharavi and
Charkop slums. The teachers, themselves trained tailors, impart basic tailoring
and embroidery skills to the women. A number of young girls, after completing
their training with us have given the Govt. tailoring examinations and have
obtained diploma certificates. For many these tailoring classes have been
a motivation to start small business from their own homes and earn a small
profit. Moreover, these classes have been a place where young girls and
mothers can come and share their lives with each others. Trained counselors
have been able to give much needed advices and support in times of family
crisis and personal problems. Along with tailoring skills the women also
receive value based education and counseling. There has been an evident
change in the quality of lives of these precious women whom God loves so
much. As a result of the spiritual inputs, many of these women have seen
their husbands, and entire families changed and living a responsible and
socially acceptable lifestyle.
